The Swiss Institute for Computer Assisted Surgery SICAS was launched in September 2011 and is supported by the Canton of Jura, ETH Zurich and the Universities of Bern and Basel. SICAS has emerged from the National Centre of Competence in Research NCCR Co-Me hosted by ETH Zurich. After 12 years of interdisciplinary research and development, the NCCR Co-Me has ended in June 2013. Read more.

SICAS was established to continue the success story of the Co-Me research network as an innovation platform for Computer Assisted and Image Guided Surgery. SICAS aims to support and exploit cutting edge translational R&D and education to the benefit of medical interventions, therapies and health care devices, relying on fields such as imaging, simulation, biomechanical engineering, intelligent materials, sensors and robotics.

As part of its activities, SICAS runs the National Center of Competence in Statistical Shape Models (NCSSM). In collaboration with leading research institutes in Switzerland, it offers services and solutions for the use of statistical shape models in medical applications. Read more.
